A Cake For The National Trust
We have been asked to supply a three tier cake on the theme of 'hunting' for Petworth House.
Run by the National Trust, Petworth House is a late 17th-century Grade I listed country house.
Particularly well known for its art collection. Turner often stayed to paint, where he produced some sublime paintings of the interior and exterior of the house and guests. As seen in the recent movie 'Mr.Turner'.
The cake will be on display in the pastry room of the historic kitchens of Petworth House and will be on show from 28th Nov – 3rd Jan, ropped off to visitors.
Here are some images of the cake in production... so far...
I made use of a very nice silver cake stand, which I had purchased at auction and put aside for a rainy day. This inevitably made my job harder by making me have to cut my own bespoke cake boards to fit the shape of the cake stand. I followed this design up through the collars of the cake.
For the second tier I decided to concentrate on an image that was sent over from Petworth House. I liked it and started drawing.
The second tier is a hexagon shape, so I made six little panels and painted a full hunting scene that runs like a story as you walk around the cake.
More to come soon.
